My journey at the FDA

The Office of Generic Drug at FDA has decided to rollout the review flow system I was developing for them. Right before the end of my term with them and after days of testing and fixing bugs, they finally roll it out live, and everything went well. I Cannot give that much information about it because of NDA, but I can tell you it is a great web application that will help the reviewers, project managers and the directors to perform their daily task better, while increasing productivity and decrease delays in approving new drug application.

On monday, the Director of the office along with a project manager and a supervisor treated me to dinner to thank me for my hard work. I was given a certificate/plaque of appreciation the next day. I felt very special that day while he was explaining me the impact the project will have in the office and that they were dreaming to have a tool like that to work with. He told me if I come back in 10 years, this same system might still be in use (which I doubt), because most of the time, that is the way things work in the government (Legacy Systems) :-)

Yes, I have developed great tools at Box Telecom, and did great stuff since I started programming, but this is the first time I worked on such a huge project which I did about 80-90% of it and that will be used by soooooooo many people in the long run (2000+ ppl).

That's cool!

Rejecting job offers...

Yes, I did that 3 times in less than 3 months. It's not that I am dumb or I have my dream job, but I already committed to doing that project at the FDA, and this experience working for the government is very valuable to me. The funny thing is I know for sure when I am done at the FDA next week, no more job offers will come my way. But it's all good. I have a great plan for the rest of the year, and depending on how it goes, might carry over for the years I have to live :-) Also, I still have lots of freelance development projects coming my way. I am making couple of bucks here and there and I am holding up. Moreover, my start-up should be UP and RUNNING soon, very promising start-up and can be pretty profitable if I put in some efforts and find the right people to help me out and grow. This is exactly what I am doing, and that's why I go to bed a 2:30 am everyday. I have to put in efforts to make this happen, and find people with the right mindset that can help on what I need to get done.

Domain name is up!

More than one week after my domain name was paid for, the folks at www.gama.ht finally provisioned my domain name. I wonder why a simple domain name registration has to be such a big deal to do. What are they doing at Gama? The first day they said it would take up to 48 hrs to work, but after more than 168 hrs nothing was done. I believe its only today, after I called them a second time that they actually did something.

The future of communications

I believe in a near future (< 15 years) from now all types of communication and data transfer would be done through an ethernet cable. The PSTN will phase out and all communications will be based on IP. Even your TV will be equiped with an RJ45 jack, and you get your TV cable channel through an IP network. Coax cable will be gone. How great would that be if even you TV could be powered over ethernet?

3 years later I found my old blog

Ok, since I am too lazy to setup wordpress on my server and host a blog on my website, I will be using this blog here to tell you guys about what I have been doing, projects I have been working on untill I can take some times to setup wordpress. In fact, I am not that lazy. Its just that I am really busy right now focussing on my startup company, and keeping up with my ongoing freelance projects. More details will be revealed soon about my startup. Things are going great so far. The launch date is set for November 20th. I will be presenting it at E2Tech, a technology fair in my home country. Why here? Because it is geared towards small and medium businesses in Haiti at least for now. So it is the best opportunity I can get to let people know about it. I am working hard on the website, bought the domain name few weeks ago and getting ready for my demo in November. I will keep you posted here about new developments.
